प्रिया (चोलु) को दही च्यूरा र sort of baby shower

today's saturday lunch in patan was a  मिस्कट of दही च्यूरा and baby shower (meaning the games aspect of the shower!) for priya (cholu). all cholu was meant to know was the menu she'd chosen - mediterranean - for the dahi chiura.. but she got wind that it would be more than that.. :)

the afternoon was a fun one.. shanta and milan had cooked up an excellent menu.. rehna, kalpana and myself came up with the dessert... i  had a surprise for avaya - the dad-to-be -  and the bestest of all were the fun games kalpana led us through!

the person of the day - cholu- with some of the balloons that defied the sun and dried grass to not burst!
 cholu with cousin pakku (prakriti)
arina helping in getting the table set up,  and lajja and mahima chat
 one half of the guests...
 ... and the other half
the mediterranean spread.. pita bread, felafel, greek yogurt chicken, salmon swimming in herbs, and sausages..along with baba ganoush and hummus...
... and oh yes, potatoes too...
.. and dahi chiura, of course!
. there was another preggers at the party - rajeshwari - who after the event had her own dahi chiura to attend to !
since we don't know the sex of the baby (cholu does not want to know), the buntings were a mix of blue and pink!
 daddy-to-be with milap and ujwal
the food was yummy
the drinks.. along with mulled wine was superb too.. as the caretaker will testify!
.. the labour of love from bagh bazar.. fruit salad and cheesecake...
mahima digs into the fruits as bandana waits her turn to do so...
the master chefs of the day  - rehna, milan and shanta...
.. and the person who it was all meant for...

the day was a beautifully sunny one...

before the games began .. there were a couple of surprises... the first was a small bundle handed over by milan.. as a 'gift from mamaghar'
turns out it was a sweater (new) knitted by deviji which milan found in a cupboard that was only opened after dada passed away.  and it was wrapped in deviji's hanky too...
... it was poignant moment...
cholu with the pretty and precious sweater..
the other surprise was one i prepared for avaya - "an emergency kit for the daddy-to-be" with all kinds of fun stuff -- little stuff
.. like the crown that said "To make your wife feel like a princess... and you have to work like a slave"...
... it brought about a lot of laughter ...
... another item that read "To be used as lost resort to get you through the night"
after that it was a series of games that kalpana prepared.. and led us through like a मास्टर्नी!
one of the games was the bingo around cholu and the upcoming birth...
a sleepy aditya was being entertained with oranges by his nini...
 ... by his फुपा...
.. by भुसु...
.. or by the मास्टर्नी !
next game was guessing the flavour of the poo in nappy.  pakku digs her nose in!
.. and ujwal takes his turn too...
the secret was out when kalpana tasted and identified each of the flavours!
 ... with gusto and relish!
 .. oh yummmmmm....
next up was the 'guess the circumference of cholu's waistline". kalpana let everyone  have their length of yarn...
 .

.. and when they were measured up on cholu.. everyone was rolling with laughter...
if jyoti's guess was a bit off the mark...
milap's guess of more than twice the circumference of cholu's belly got everyone hysterical! :)
as the afternoon wore on and it started getting a bit cold.. we went indoors... for a a nice cuppa tea
.. and the second round of dessert. this time  from kalpana - the deconstructed strawberry pavlova -- yummilicious!
sandaji.. who had been flitting in and out during the afternoon.. got his turn to taste some of the games we'd played... the first one of course was the chocolate poo one!
.. and the other the  guessing the circumference one...
.. when most of the guests departed.. sandaji had a quiet time with 'adityau' and bhusu

and that is how the day went.. a fun and memorable one... a month to go now... :)  this would have been a twin dahi chiura for  both kripa and priya.. but kripa's in the UK.. :(
