these are pictures from yesterday (23rd june) that i took from seat 59A on a thai airways boeing 777 while coming to kathmandu from bangkok. the images below are from what i assume is over bihar or west bengal in india and ends with a 3.5 minute video clip of the landing (we saw land only past harisiddhi, so low were the clouds!!!)

and that is reflected in the land below. in the last week of june.. these fields should have been green with freshly planted paddy.. or at least the earth wet and dark brown. but compared to when we had flown out a week earlier, at least there had been some rain, thus cleaning the air of dust and allowing a clear view of the land below. 
the plane then banks right, headed north towards kathmandu
still scant clouds as we fly over what remains of the chaar koshey jhaari and the east west highway cutting across it. how many kosh of thick forest does nepali soil now have, i wonder?

there must have been either traffic in kathmandu or very poor visibility (attested later in the clip below) that our plane made an 8 before the mountain started..
finally our craft heads northwards

and the final descent into the valley.. most amidst clouds.. in fact we saw ground clearly only after we flew past harisiddhi and near the manohara river.. phew! after we'd landed we saw the dark low clouds to the south of the airport ! thank god for radars, gps, fly by wire and what not! : )
