kot with kripa

we'd gone up to kot on an overnight trip with kripa, who's home after two years.  the skies were clear, the view wonderful, and a lot of time to sit together and chat... (the photos taken by me, kripa, priya, and even amar)

when we reached kot, the afternoon was already winding up.  the lapsi tree in kedarji's land standing leafless but loaded with fruit...
the houses in the valley floor catching the golden light...
...kedarji's kitten makes herself comfy in the sun next to priya's legs...

sister act... priya and kripa have fun together in the sunsety light
 ...they strike poses...
 ... more poses...
... i asked priya to show some teeth while smiling, and this is what she did...
... and then her reaction to what she looked like!!
...us (missing ravi and ujwal and rehna!)
the himals begin to catch the evening light
... last rays of the sun over the valley...
... as the sun dips behind the hills...
... and the sky turns ruddy...
 ... the mountains from afar...
... and up close... shadow over langtang...
 ...pink gangchhempo...
... i begin chopping veggies for momo in the terrace...

... the light dims and the lights spring up in the valley...
... we had a small bonfire going...  priya working on it...
... fireside neath the starry sky...
... the flames leap up...
... we packed the momos by the fireside...

... the glowing sisters...

... final mixing of the momo filling, and taking out all the jhankeo methi from it!!!
... load-shedding...
... next morning the himals are back on show in the early morning light...
... layers and layers of hills and mountains... from kathmandu to khumbu...
  ... ganesh himal range...
...himalchuli (and a bit of manaslu) from the living room...

... gangchhempo.. and the shrinking glacier...
... dome blanc and dorje lakpa....
...langtang.. more rocks showing on the mountain??
...phurbi ghyachu...
... from jugal himals to himalchuli and kathmandu beneath the rising smog...
... and from langtang eastwards...... sistras again...

kripa in front of the house.. before we started heading down ...
... all prepared to breathe in that air down there in the valley...
... of course the fact that our pajero jeep would not start and we had to wait for the 'rescue' vehicle to come from my maiti to jumpstart the car.. that's another story!!!

हिमालै हिमाल: only mountains

the images in these post are the ones i took over three days in dhulikhel. the skies had cleared up after more than a week of clouds and rain. blue skies, mountains turning from orange, to yellow to silver and back to yellow, orange, purple and white.. according to the time of the day.

day one in the afternoon.. just a bit hazy...
 dorje lakpa
 her majesty langtang
 gangchhengpo to dorje lakpa
langtang reflecting a bit of fading evening light
  phurbi ghyachu too
 evening sets in
'3-days short of full' moon rises
once the sunlight disappears from the sky
dawn of day two, eagles find a spot of warm draft to swirl upwards
panchkhal valley still blanketed in fog
 jaggedy chhoba bhamare
dorje lakpa catches the first rays of the morning sun
and passengers on this mountain flight are already up there to see the scene first hand
langtang also catches the first rays
as do the rest of the himals as they tower over the layers of other hills
bamboo leaves flutter in front of langtang

 the sky is lighting up
an odd shaped himal whose name i do not know
notice the little shiny speck one inch below the top right corner.. it is a plane above the khumbu area.. on a mountain flight
as the sun comes up higher the sky turn blue
fog is yet to lift from the valley
and now the himalayan peaks from langtang eastwards

 and the peaks from afar
gauri and shankar cosy up together
a strange conical peak in the middle...
one day short of full moon

dusk creeps in ... helicopters returning with remainder of stranded passengers from lukla??

 himals turn pink

as does the sky on day three, with very high cirrus clouds...
fog reflects the colour of the sky
 ruddy clouds

eagles ride the upward draft once more
 a 'peak island'
the mountain still visible from just inside the valley and i head back home. beyond bhaktapur the mountains got hidden behind a dirty smoggy veil...
