more of dasain

today was ekadashi... we visited guruma hajur in bansbari, maila raja and chanakhdi in dillibazar and two of my sanimas for tika... it was definitely a day for strong and great women... take a look

the best thing that happened today was that the clouds parted letting the sunshine into our lives!! here are two crows sunning themselves on top of the kainyo tree.

ahhh.. neelo akash!

a good thing about the sun is shadow it casts... very comforting!!

we started tika today by visiting guruma hajur in bansbari. usually she used to come to take tika from muwa, but as she was unwell (just back from the hospital recently), muwa decided to go to her. we were lucky that we caught other relatives there too...

little anoushka.. a month short of becoming an older sister, sits between her great grandma and great grand aunt!!

baba and kishor raja share a lighter moment

blessings from muwa for her bhada

then it's time for the grand nephew. notice the chhori grabbing the moment to put tika ;;on her father's forehead. she also took one jamara and placed it on his head!!!

finally it is time for anoushka to get tika from her great grand aunt, who promised her a nice putali...

as her parents and grandma look on...

tika for kishore raja from mami too...

while we were in bansbari, sano mami arrived with geeta phupu.. as did anu and radhesh, another opportunity for a round of tika!

geeta phupu receives tika from her thuli ama

and sano mami receives blessings from her bhauju

back from bansbari.. we then went on another round of tika. we started with madhudidi in dilli bazar. here is her mother in law (and my grand phupu too, and now nearly 99 years!!) with indudidi's daughter krishnaa

sasu and buhari. muwa kept complaining about my white hair and infact, just as i had predicted, gave me aashirwaad later on saying 'may your hair turn black' !!

baba receives tika from his sanima sasu

from there we went to visit maila raja and chanakhdi, also in dilli bazar. chanakhdi, had miraculously survived a very grave illness a couple of months ago.. and was indeed a surprise to see her all red and pretty, all 91 years of her!!! here she is giving tika to baba.. teasing him.. 'how do you expect me to recognise you when you keep such a white moustache?'

the nonagenarian couple...

our last stop for the day was at indudidi's , who is living with her older girl krishnaa. here she is giving tika to baba reading blessings from her guru's book... ' i couldn't make it by heart.. so forgive me if i read,' she'd said!

so another dasain day.. tomorrow is dwadashi.. the day we stay home and lots and lots of people come to bagh bazar to put tika from muwa, mami and the rest of us!!
